Istiklal Street – Grand Rue de Pera

Istiklal Street is very close to Lutfi Kirdar Congress Center where Startup Istanbul will be located

Where is the most famous street  or avenue in Istanbul?
The answer is probably the same for all locals in Istanbul: Istiklal Street, is located in Beyoglu district on the European side. Nearly 3 million people visit this place in a single day. Istiklal Street is cosmopolitian soul of Istanbul with its shops, cafes, bars, art galleries, restaurants, cinemas, churches, synagogues, mosques and embassies.
Istiklal streeet, surrounded by Ottoman era buildings was very popular avenue for Ottoman citizens and then it has become a center for European foreigners and the local Italian and French Levantines who referred to it as Grande Rue de Pera.
This avenue is also popular with its nostalgic tram runs the almost 3km length of Istiklal Street, beginning at Taksim Square and ending at the world’s second-oldest subway station Tünel (The Tunnel).
Istiklal and the small side streets have many different options to eat, drink and sing. For a memorable experience, go to the meyhanes of Balik Pazari (Fish Market) on Nevizade Street, as well as its lovely neighbour, Cicek Pasaji (Flower Passage).
