Building Your Early Stage Startup Network
One recommendation for all of you guys thinking about starting something is make sure you've got the early stage network built out. Prior to my last startup, Simply Finance, was about ten years ago. So the world changes. Of course, all the investors out there change. I remember when I first started raising again, I'm like, wow, seed round is 5 million. Now a Series A is like 20 million. What's going on in this world? Anyway, I encourage all of you to just keep a pulse on that. If you know you're going to become an entrepreneur, you know you're going to get back out there, assuming you want to raise money, just stay involved with that world, that ecosystem that precedes seed world old. So a little bit of me was maybe a little bit. I just thought, oh, hey, my ego, right? Oh, I should be able to raise off of my background, blah, blah, blah. But you've got to maintain those networks. So, yes, one tip for you is if you're going to raise or you're going to have a venture kind of idea, start developing those networks, start developing those relationships.
This video shares my top tip for early stage startups - build your network before you need it! Investor expectations change fast. Stay plugged in to the ecosystem even between ventures. I learned this the hard way. Don't let ego make you think your background is enough. Maintain relationships with investors, founders and advisors. If you want to raise funds down the road, lay that foundation early. Your network is the key to startup success!
