The Art of the Pitch - Don't Number 1: Create Slides First
It’s important to stay away from the slides at first. When you go for the slides first, you would probably get generic slide templates which are not compelling enough. It also makes it very obvious that you just went ahead to create your slides first. You might want to ask yourself the question ‘What is the single takeaway of my pitch?’ and ‘What are people going to remember after my pitch?’. It could be your growth and traction, team, technology or just something that’s really special about your startup.
Too much of anything is bad and this very applies when you’re pitching. You don’t want to put too much detail, you just need to pass your message as resoundingly as possible, and leave the audience with that one special thing you would always want them to remember about your startup.
So, instead of opening up PowerPoint to create your slide first. You could take a pen and notebook, and clearly write down what you would want your audience to remember after your pitch.
